Chris’s Album of the Year for 2017

American Dream is the fourth studio album by American rock band LCD Soundsystem, released on September 1, 2017, by DFA and Columbia. First announced on January, 2016. It is the band’s first album in seven years, following This Is Happening. American Dream is among the few releases this year that I constantly find myself coming back to. This album really jams! Mixing elements in a delectable witches brew of Post-Punk, Dance, New Wave and Synthpop makes this a very enjoyable album to listen to.

A few fun facts about this album:

-The album’s closing track, “Black Screen” is a homage to Bowie.

-James Murphy wanted to include Leonard Cohen to perform a spoken word piece at the end of the track, but Cohen died within a few days after he came up with the idea.

-The album cover is a painting titled UP done by Murphy’s friend Robert Reynolds.
